- Heart health and high cholesterol Although they are not the only major risk factors, high LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and low HDL (“good”) cholesterol are associated with a high risk of heart disease. Cholesterol problems do not produce immediate symptoms, so regular visits to a doctor are needed. Treatment—People with high LDL cholesterol are advised to reduce consumption of dietary cholesterol and saturated fats. Lifestyle changes—Exercise increases protective HDL cholesterol, even just walking can help! Self-care for high cholesterol can be approached in a number of ways—but it can be hard to know just where to start. To make it easier, our doctors recommend trying these simple steps first: Cut the bad fats Foods that contain saturated fat, hydrogenated fat, and cholesterol (such as animal products; fried foods; and sweet, baked snacks) can raise cholesterol Reduce risk with fiber Add whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables to your meals to reduce heart disease risk Raise “good” cholesterol with exercise Start a regular exercise program to help raise HDL cholesterol Add soy protein to your diet 30 grams (about one ounce) a day of powdered soy protein added to food or drinks can help lower cholesterol Try plant sterols and stanols (natural vegetable fats) Take 1.6 grams a day as a supplement or in specially fortified margarines to help reduce cholesterol Check out policosanol Take 10 to 20 mg a day of a product extracted from sugar cane to help lower cholesterol Get some garlic 600 to 900 mg a day of a standardized garlic supplement may help lower cholesterol and prevent hardening of the arteries
- All meat are high in cholesterol. A single egg almost meets your daily limit for cholesterol intake. Triglyceride is just a component of fat. Avoid of of them and you'll do fine.
- 1. Cholesterol: The worst offenders for cholesterol are trans fats and saturated fats. Check nutrition facts labels, and avoid all foods with trans fats, and try to limit your saturated fats as much as possible. Contrary to the old advice, eating foods with cholesterol (like egg yolks) are not as bad as trans fats and saturated fats, so go ahead and eat one or two eggs per day if you want. Eggs have lots of good nutrients. 2. Triglycerides: A lot of carbohydrates can raise your triglycerides. Try to avoid junk food with refined carbs: things like sugar, candy, pies, cakes, soda drinks, etc.
- There are differen kinds of cholestrol LDL (Low Density Lipids) bad cholestrol, HDL (High Density Lipids) "good" cholestrol, VLDL (very low d.l.) and total cholestrol which is the sum of those three. You should lower your LDL and try to incease your HDL as it will clean the LDL too but not to the point to surpass the upper HDL or upper total cholestrol limit. If you are diagnosed with hyperlipidemy (high cholestrol) you should be prescribed drugs (statin family of drugs) and low dose blood thinners 100mg aspirin enteric coated. I am not an M.D. so check with yours for drug interactions or hemoraic risks. Any kind of fat which is solid on room temperature is called saturated fat (infused with hydrogen atoms to keep it solid or animal based) and should be avoided almost at all if possible; you can use controlled amounts of liquid oils like olive oil and sunflower oil. Totally discarding fat and oil isn't healthy either. Omega-3 type of lipid acids and fish based fats are better. Include green vegetables with fibers in your diet and fresh fruit as replacement for some of other foods. A non-specific (not designed for you) diet might hurt your health more than it helps. Never do a less than required calory intake diet to avoid serious heart problems. High cholestrols common complications are damage and blockage of blood vessels and obesity. Disclaimer : I am not an M.D. ; consult one ASAP if you think you have high cholestrol. Don't self medicate your self. Loren Soth
- This one is pretty simple: Animal equals cholesterol Vegetable equals NO cholesterol Triglycerides are basically sugars or starches that become sugars. How hard is that to remember?
- Reduction of saturated fats and replacement with unsaturated fats, Ghee butter, fat fried foods, mutton, coconut, palm oil coconut oil, egg yolk, cheese, liver ,kidney etc should be avoided.
