High triglyceride levels, pain on the back?
My brother got a blood test, results said he had high triglyceride levels (200-499 mg/dL).He has a pain on his back.Explanation please? Is this something to be alarmed about? My brother does not drink alcohol or eat fatty foods. How can this be alleviated? Thanks!

- His triglycerides say otherwise with the fatty foods. You don't really get high cholesterol from eating fruits, veggies and fiber. As for the back pain, it has nothing to do with the triglycerides (which is cholesterol). He's probably carrying a few extra pounds and as you get older it strains the back. He needs a diet.
- I'm in NO way trying to pass myself off as a Doctor. I'm simply telling you from my experience. I too had high Tri's...(5000..yes that's 3 zeros) I don't eat high fatty foods or even salt for that matter. Reasons were never discovered I hate to say but speculation when they dropped were possible thyroid or even stress. I don't think the back pain is related to the high tri's. Here's a link to webmd's comments: http://www.webmd.com/search/search_results/default.aspx?sourceType=undefined&query=high%20triglycerides Best of luck and Blessings all around.
- Try to ruleout coronary disease by consulting your doc or by stress test.
- His back pain may have nothing to do with the high triglyceride levels. Perhaps he pulled a muscle, or strained his back. Impossible to tell from the info provided. Triglycerides are not cholesterol. They are fats, and are an independant risk for vascular disease and can often lead to pancreatitis. His problem is likely genetic and there are ways to lower his levels. Not drinking is good, but they are often elevated by eating sugars. He should be on a program to lower his blood fats.
