Triglycerides

Are medium chain triglycerides(MCTS) classified under saturated or unsaturated fat on food labels?

This, because some people I know may be mistakenly avoiding using a product with MCTS, thinking that the total Saturated fat is too high.

  1. Yes, MCTs are saturated fats and are thus represented on food labels as part of the saturated fat content. One way to sort out whether you are dealing with MCTs as part of the saturated fat in a packaged food is to look at the ingredients. If it includes coconut oil or palm oil, some of the saturated fats will be MCTs.
