- Google the words "Low Glycemic" and you will find a list.
- It'll be easier to tell you what foods not to eat.........Avoid as much as possible the white foods as rice, potatoes, pasta and breads. Go with the whole wheat selections, they contain more fiber and fiber slows down how fast the glucose enters your system. Increase the amount of fruits and vegetables for the same reasons. The days of fast, processed and already prepared foods is a must to avoid regardless of what the label says. ....... If the label reads lower fats, than their adding another bad flavoring agent. If the label reads low sodium the same rule applies. If the label reads low in sugar the same rule applies. etc. Food manufactures make their money by selling tasty foods, to make them tasty their adding all the bad fats, oils, sugars and salts that your looking to avoid. Look for foods that are being flavored by adding spices and herbs, those are free foods and are good for you. As for your triglycerides avoid fats, especially saturated fats that come from animals and avoid alcohol, that will raise those levels. Good luck
- This is a very wide open question with a two part answer. Are you a diabetic? If you are concerned about high blood glucose because you are a diabetic, you would avoid simple carbohydrates ( foods that are high in sugar, corn syrup, high fructose sweetners) and eat more complex carbohydrates ( whole wheat breads and grains without too much added sugar) along with protien ( meats, legumes, fish & poultry) as well as vegetables. Be careful though as some vegetables are considered starches because of their caloric and gycemic index, such as peas, corn, legume type beans, certain squashes), these are not bad vegetables but if you have for example, a 4oz piece of chicken with mashed potatoes and corn you are actually having two servings of starch, a better meal would be 4 oz. chicken, mashed potatoes and broccoli. or if you prefer corn have 4 oz. chicken , corn and broccoli. ( I hope I am making sense. Now for the tryglycerides, these are usually elevated when you eat a lot of, fats, concentrated sweets ( cookies, cakes, simple carbohydrates), alcohol can also elevate triglycerides. The one good thing about tryglycerides is that they fluctuate. For example, what you eat the day before your blood work is done ( sweets, wine, a hearty meal with some fat ) will most likely give a high tryglyceride value, you may have the test again 3 days later but have not have eaten a fatty meal, no alcohol and no desserts and it will give a lower result. If you need more help you can PM me at my yahoo address, I will not mind because the answer really requires a lot more info than I can give on this page. I am a nutrtionist. Good luck, One more very important thing, only eat when your actually hungry, dont over eat, and exercise. Exercise will definitely help to keep your blood glucose levels down as well as your trigycerides and your total lipid profile.
