Triglycerides

I just had my yearly physical, and my triglycerides are high..?

My Total clorestoral is 184, which is good. My HDL is 33, but preferrably should be above 40 or higher. My LDL is 104, Less than 130 is ok, and less than 100 is preferred. The bad news is that my Triglycerides are at 237 and should be less than 150. How do I lower the triglycerides in a healthy manner? For anybody who has dealt with this, What did you do? I don't eat a lot of fried foods, and have been eating more fish for several years now. Any suggestions?

  1. try poking your nose.
  2. Didn't your doctor give you any guidance? Follow the doctors advice.
  3. you should probably only eat foods with less that 4g of sugar per serving.
  4. what did your doctor say ? follow his advice
  5. What has your physician told you to do. Some Y.A. answers will be right on but others could be disasterous.
  6. Some margarines and oils are high in triglycerides. Avoid the palm and cocoanut oils in prepared foods. Cook with olive or canola or peanut oils. Use minimal amounts of margarine or look for a yogurt spread like Brummels and Brown - which is delicious.
  7. Did you eat within a few hours of the test? Did you eat a fatty meal the night before? This level may be falsely elevated if you did not fast long enough. Some people have high trig levels due to family genetics. Sounds like you are doing the right things... exercise, avoid fried foods, etc. Meds are available, but usually reserved for more severe cases.
