Triglycerides question please?
I had a routine blood test as I always do to check my thyroid since I have hyperthyroidism...so the results came back and my doctor called me and told me to increase my thyroid medication to every day...that's all good and fine. But since she was ordering other tests to be done besides the thyroid, I asked if they came back ok...she said all was fine and normal....THANK goodness...EXCEPT, she said my TRIGLYCERIDES were high... Ok so I said what should I do? She said exercise and cut back on carbohydrates and rice...I said I always exercise and I don't even eat rice but once in a blue moon. And because she's a BUSY endocrynologist, she kinda talked fast and I couldn't ask her anything else. SO, does anyone know what triglycerides are and is it harmful if they're too high?

- All I know is of a friend whose triglycerides were high and sweated profusely, for which he took a pill prescribed because of high triglycerides to stop it.
- Your triglycerides can be high if you eat too much fatty food, drink too much alcohol regularly (if you do, cut way back or stop), or you eat too much of certain other foods, but can also be high genetically. Eat oatmeal every day, and get plenty of exercise, then after two or three months, get tested again...see what happens. (And yes, it can be VERY harmful...) Good luck.
- Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides. The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals. If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia). Triglycerides and cholesterol are separate types of fat that circulate in your blood. Triglycerides provide your body with energy, and cholesterol is used to build cells and certain hormones. Since triglycerides and cholesterol can't dissolve in blood, they circulate throughout your body with the help of protein packages called lipoproteins. - Triglycerides are VLDL Very low density lipoproteins. They are a type of cholesterol. There's also HDL (good cholesterol), LDL low density lipoproteins & next come triglycerides. They can cause clogging of your arteries. Reduce animal fats, red meat, eggs, carbs. You can take Omega 3 fish oils 3000mg/day; niacinamide (niacin without the flush); betasiterols; and policosanol. Good luck
- Triglycerides is a part of Lipid panel test which includes total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), ratio etc. It is another fat substance in your blood and too much of it can cause an artery blockage and strokes like high cholesterol. The normal level is below is from 0-149. 150-199 is borderline high. I had this before but I brought it down pretty quickly by avoiding high saturated fat such as cheese, coconut etc and exercise. I hope that helps.
