Elevated SGPT and SGOT levels?
My dad and brother both have elevated levels of SGPT and SGOT. They are also elevated in glucose levels and triglyceride levels. My brother is 13, 5'7 and is overweight. He has 89 sgpt and 66 sgot. My dad is 44, 5'6 and is also a bit overweight. He has 57.39 sgpt and 42.18 sgot. What could cause this problem in their SGPTs and SGOTs? They don't drink alcohol at all but they do take in 1000mg of Vit C and Multivitamins daily. I'd also like to ask which food could cause this and which foods should we avoid to reduce the levels. Any advise would help.

- vitamins with iron in it or foods with iron in it are a HUGE NO if someone has elevated ast and alt levels. (sgpt and sgot). they probably have NASH- this occurs due to diet. however, there are other diseases of the liver that they probably need to be tested for. Those with NASH can also have type 2 diabetes or develope the disease over the long run. Those with elevated enzymes could also be infected with HCV- it is more common than most realize and anyone regardless of age can be infected! They need to see a gastrointeritis to seek more answers. The doctor will run a hep panel (a good one will anyway!) and rule out other possibilities. Auto-immune hepatitis can also be the cause of iron storage. A person with any form of hepatitis can have liver damage, hence the NO iron rule. Other foods to avoid, high fat, sugary foods, drinks that contain high sugar and even foods and drinks with artificial sweeteners!!!!! (the artificial sweeteners will make you crave the foods that are high in fat and convert to surgars, ie, carbohydrates like pototato's turn into sugar!) Good luck! Take this seriously!
