What Triglycerides and HDLC mean in my blood work? I received my blood work from the lab and the resolute for my Triglycerides was 27 witch is low (the range is 35-149) and my HDLC is 84 witch is high (range is 40-60). I don't konw anything about this.

I dont want to go on cholesterol meds. If I stop eating for a week will my triglycerides go down? I went to the doctor and he told me if my lipid panel did not improve he was going to consider putting me on cholesterol lowering drugs. I know from past experience these meds are hard on the liver. I would rather go the natural route which he suggested fish oil tablets every day. If I stop eating this weekend, will my triglycerides go down before my next blood draw? I been cheating on my diet really bad and need to get my cholesterol down. I just want to get it down so when they draw my lipid panel, he doesnt slap me on cholesterol lowering drugs because it is high. I have been a slacker and not really following a low fat diet. Yeah, I could lose about 50 lbs now. I just dropped 20 and cheated over the easter weekend and have not been back on my diet plan for about a week. I am 5'10 tall and am very volumptuous. I have big nockers and I am very curvy. A diet would do me great things. He has been my cardiologist for 25 yrs. He keeps telling me to eat like a rabbit, but I saw him eating in the cafeteria and he was eating a cheeseburger. He knows me inside out. My heart is mis wired and now I have a couple of electrical shorts put in (ablation)
What is the natural way to lower triglycerides? I have triglecorites inherited from my dad, so my diet has nothing to do with it. The doctor prescribed me Tricor, I take Omega 3 fish oil pills. My doctor still wants my triglicerites a little lower, I don't want to be on another medication. I am looking for advice for something else over the counter that is natural and will go along with my fish oil.
How do I get my cholesterol and triglycerides down? I am 42 yrs old and my heart doctors nurse called me the other day to tell me to start taking a daily fish oil capsule and he would re check my lipid profile in 3 months. It all sounds kinda vague to me. I do not have a clue how to read the fat/polyunsaturated/cholesterol part of a food label. I would appreciate suggestions. I am not stupid, but never had to think about this kind of stuff before.
Why did my triglycerides go up but my total cholesterol drop? I just recently had a cholesterol panel done and while my total cholesterol dropped, my triglycerides rose. What might have caused this? I decreased the amount of fatty foods I ate during the time between the two tests, started exercising, ate more vegetables. I'm wondering why my triglycerides are continuing to climb while my total cholesterol is dropping.
Does fish oil really decrease your triglycerides? I went to the cardiologist for a liver profile and cholesterol panel and he said my triglycerides were 287 and told me to start taking fish oil capsules and be re checked. Anyone have any experience with these otc capsules and do they help? He said take a couple a day. How much do most people take?
How to lower Triglycerides, Glucose Serum, and total Cholestrol? I recently had a major physical for a job. Part of the physical was doing blood work. The things that came back high are: Glucose 109..Range should be 65-99, Cholesterol 247 range should be 100-199 and Triglycides 297 range should be 0-149. Now I havent been to the Doctors in a couple of years. I passed the physical but they said I should speak to someone about these issues via a letter. Any suggestions would be great!

Can the birth control pill cause high triglycerides? My tryglycerides are 320, and I saw on a website, that birth control pills, can be one of the causes. I have been taking the pill for 9 years. It really helps with my PMS , and at my age I wouldn't want to get pregnant. The doctor says I can only be on them a couple more years.

Triglycerides? What's the difference between cholesterol and triglycerides? What if your cholesterol levels are normal but your triglyceride levels are elevated? Do triglycerides come from the liver like cholesterol, or are they just fat?
triglycerides? I was just wondering if not totally fasting before blood work could have affected my results. I was told my triglycerides were 249 but my cholesterol was fine. I had a 12oz can of coke about two hours before my test. I have now been about to stave my self to death trying to figure out how to lower the triglyceride level. Someone told me the simple sugars in the soda my have temporarily raised my triglycerides and that i may not have a problem at all. I would love to hear from someone that knows about this sort of thing. Thanks i advance for any help or advice.

Also, she doesn't want to use pills. Any ways she could to lower the "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raise the "good" cholesterol and to lower the blood pressure???? Also, could you make a list of foods with bad cholesterol and good cholesterol? and her total cholesterol was like 272. is that bad? oops. i asked and the total cholesterol was 227 not 272.
Can triglycerides test be wrong? I just turned 29 years 3 day's ago and I took my blood test. well the Doctor said my triglycerides are 990. I don't understand how that can be.. am a little overweight, but not that bad. I am young and I feel fine.. Can the lab be wrong? I am going to be a surrogate and the doctor said I can not take the med's if I am going to have a baby. Does anyone know of a safe way I can lower my triglycerides without med's from the doctor?
Does Mono-Diglycerides which turn into triglycerides in our blood stream. Does it raise our triglycerides.? I drink a creamer that has Mono- and diglycerides (prevents oil separation) in the ingredients. I found out it turns into triglycerides in our blood stream. What I want to know does it cause triglycerides to go up? I have very very high triglycerides, in the danger range!!!!! The Mono-Diglycerides are in a lot of food stuff I eat!!!! My doc's and I are having a hard time finding what is causing my high levels of Triglycerides. I've always had a healthy diet, I weight 130 lb. 5'3, and no other family members have it. The highest it's been is 1,734 (Triglycerides). So I'm very curious. Thank you for any information you can give. FYI I do have MS.
Please Help! My triglycerides are sky high! Why is this? About 6 months ago I had a lab test, and my cholesterol was about 200, HDL, and LDL were perfect, but my triglycerides were 970! I was started on a high dose of Vytorin, and several months later my triglycerides came down to about 485. Well, I just had another blood test yesterday, and my triglycerides are back up to 587. My cholesterol is 169 and the other tests are completely in normal range. I am not overweight, and eat a pretty healthy diet. Could this be hereditary? My aunt also has high triglycerides, but her other lipids are normal. Any good suggestions on what I should do? I see the dr. on Monday. Thanks in advance!
What are triglycerides? My friend had blood work and they checked her triglycerides as abnormal. What does this mean? She takes cholesterol medicine, if that makes any difference.....
Triglycerides - I know some basics, but have some questions? I went to the Doctor three months ago and my triglycerides were 855, she instructed me to eat less bread, pasta and potatoes, I eat no bread or Potatoes and very little pasta, the other day my after three months my triglycerides were 413 I would like to lower them I was wondering if someone could tell me if liquid egg product even the all white liquid eggs are bad?
Triglycerides question please? I had a routine blood test as I always do to check my thyroid since I have hyperthyroidism...so the results came back and my doctor called me and told me to increase my thyroid medication to every day...that's all good and fine. But since she was ordering other tests to be done besides the thyroid, I asked if they came back ok...she said all was fine and normal....THANK goodness...EXCEPT, she said my TRIGLYCERIDES were high... Ok so I said what should I do? She said exercise and cut back on carbohydrates and rice...I said I always exercise and I don't even eat rice but once in a blue moon. And because she's a BUSY endocrynologist, she kinda talked fast and I couldn't ask her anything else. SO, does anyone know what triglycerides are and is it harmful if they're too high?
Does aspirin cause triglycerides levels to rise? I started taking baby aspirin since last 2 months, may be 1 or 2 a day. Recently i did a complete blood count and my triglycerides at 550, it never was that high. it always stayed at 230 over the last 6 years, even dropped to between 85 and 150 for almost 2 years. i started having irregular heart beat with bradychardia since sep 2007 and that time they did all the exams and concluded to be fine, including did a stress test/Ultrasound everything looked fine and doctors said it is episodic dues to my work stress etc. please share your thoughts. Thank you all.
My triglycerides are almost 500, but I don't have high cholesterol? My triglycerides are 490. I don't have high cholesterol......but I've been drinking like a fish. The doc wants to put me on meds, but I thought not drinking was a better idea (2wks no alcohol so far). What should I do? ALSO.....if I am put on meds for high triglycerides, does that mess up my chances of getting health insurance?
High triglycerides? I was diagnosed with high triglycerides, but normal cholestrol. Whats wrong with having high triglycerides? I was on medicine but quit it cuz I don't know why I should worry about it.
Cholesterol vs Triglycerides Question? My Cholesterol level has improved from ~270mg/dL to 211mg/dL but my Triglycerides level still maintain around 258mg/dL. I had tried to cut intake of bad fat diet but start fish oil/garlic intake and cereal meal breakfast for the last 6 months. anybody know why and how to lower Triglycerides level? will high Trig caused any harm to kidney deseases?
Polymerization of Triglycerides? Fats and oils are commonly made up of triglycerides. When subjected to frying (i.e. at approx 200 degrees celsius), these triglycerides tend to polymerize. Suggest the mechanisms in which they could polymerize. I would appreciate it if you can cite some journal articles to back your view. :) Thanks.
I just had my yearly physical, and my triglycerides are high..? My Total clorestoral is 184, which is good. My HDL is 33, but preferrably should be above 40 or higher. My LDL is 104, Less than 130 is ok, and less than 100 is preferred. The bad news is that my Triglycerides are at 237 and should be less than 150. How do I lower the triglycerides in a healthy manner? For anybody who has dealt with this, What did you do? I don't eat a lot of fried foods, and have been eating more fish for several years now. Any suggestions?
Conversion from glucose to glycogen & triglycerides questions? When people eat too much carbs, and the glucose level rises too high, the body will convert the excess glucose to glycogen (which is stored in the liver?) and triglycerides (fat?). Does the liver go... ok, this batch of glucose will become glycogen. Then when the next batch comes in, it goes, well, now I feel like some triglycerides. Or are both the output of the same process? If they are not result of the same process, how does the liver know when to make glycogen and when to make triglycerides? Thanks.
Triglycerides are off the charts? This question is pretty much a continuation of a question i've already asked -- "before and after the doctor." My husband, who is 25, just had a rude awakening at the doctor today. His triglycerides are 1,879, his total cholesterol is 328, and his HDL is 27. All of these numbers seem outrageous to me and the doctor was shocked, saying he's never seen numbers like that in a 25 year old. His blood pressure was also 152/110. My husband has an extensive history of heart disease in his family (his grandpa having 6 heart attacks and a triple bypass, and his dad also had bypass surgery). It's obviously not all genetics, I know how he eats and it's not good. I need some good suggestions from people who know what they're talking about to tell me what to do to help him bring down these numbers. I don't want comments like "take out a life insurance policy." If anyone can give me some good input on this situation, I'd appreciate it. Also, his medication is Tricor and Lisinopril.
Triglycerides elevated? My friend's labwork came back. Her cholesterol is 300+ and her triglycerides are 1200+. That's not a typo. 1200+. She wont change her diet or employ a chef (she can totally afford to). What does this mean in regards to her heart health?
Triglycerides waaaaaaaay too high!? My total cholesterol is normal but my doc said my Triglycerides are waaaaaaaaaaay too high....they've hit the 200's and two years ago were normal. I'm not a big steak eater....I don't eat fast food....I actually competed in an Ironman in 2004, I do yoga, and brazilian jiu jitsu. What could cause my tri's to shoot up so high? I read that I'm at risk for heart attack but I'm only 35. WTH!!! Could stress raise my tris?
triglycerides Question? When I went for my annual check up my bp was fine...and so was my LDL's & HDL's but my triglycerides were on the high side. My doc said not to worry. Is this normal?
Triglycerides / HDL ratio. Is this statement correct? "The ratio between triglycerides and HDL (“good”) cholesterol may be an even better predictor of heart attack than the ratio between good and bad LDL cholesterol". I have found it here: http://heart.healthcentersonline.com/cholesterol/triglycerides4.cfm Your _informed_ opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Marginally relevant, but interesting point on page 5 of 7: "High triglyceride levels can affect the accuracy of the formula used to calculate LDL levels. Unlike HDL and triglycerides, LDL is not measured directly in most blood tests because it is difficult and expensive to do so. Instead, physicians subtract HDL and one-fifth of triglycerides from the total cholesterol to calculate the LDL. In other words, say a person has a total cholesterol level of 270. The HDL level, which is measured directly, is 30. The triglyceride level is 250, but this result is divided by 5 to get a score of 50. LDL (270) is calculated by subtracting HDL (30) and triglyceride (50). The LDL level is 190, which is high (see Cholesterol & Your Health)." Rudebox77 convert gained points to cash if you can. IOW, get a life ? Maybe ? VERY interesting, SG ! Wtng 4 more input......4 now tho, all's I can say is anyone sporting a _27% BA score_ 'sgot CREDIBILITY. That's rare.
biochemistry...triglycerides? im stuck with a biochemistry question. Explain the difference in solubility between triglycerides and the products of their hydrolysis.. thanks so much
How can my hubby lower his triglycerides? His cholesterol is 220 and triglycerides are 312. I did some online research and as a result went to the health food store and purchased some lecithin, GTF chromium, Fish Smart Ultra (Omega), & red yeast rice. However, I am trying to figure out the correct dosages, combinations, when to take, with/without food, etc. Anyone have any experience with this? I guess I should mention that we're also (primarily) treating this with diet changes & exercise.
Cholesterol/Triglycerides/ HDL LDL/ Are mine Okay? Cholesterol - 194 Triglycerides - 149 HDL 58 LDL - 106 Cholesterol / HDL Ratio - 3.34 I am 27 years old, I wiegh 140 pound. I have been eating alot of fast food the last year or so, but are my numbers high? My doctor said they were fine, but they appear on the norm/High side, and I have read at different places on line, that mine is fine and that its not fine. Please help! Thanks Val
My doctor just told me that my triglycerides are high. He recommended fish oil pills x3perday.? Ok I know I am overweight. Yet I never suspected triglycerides to be high and I am not 100% I even know what triglycerides are. I read the info online about them and it seems to be very confusing. How do you lower your triglycerides and get healthy? The fat just doesn't seem to want to go in my mid-section. So what now? And which fish oil supplements won't make me smell like fish? or taste it? I heard they made you burp yucky smelling ugh! I don't eat a whole lot of red meat but I will cut it out 95% if that's what it takes.
How bad really are monoglycerides and diglycerides? Triglycerides? I was wondering what the effect of these things on your health was. I've read up on them but nobody seems to say the same thing. One site said they were hydrogenated oils and another said quote, 'They may cause genetic changes, cancer, birth defects, and allergic reactions.' Can they really be that detrimental to a persons health? What are triglycerides (mono 'one', di 'two', tri 'three'?)
VERY High Triglycerides ...? I went to my Dr for some things and found out yesterday that my triglycerides are at 500. She was concerned and is having me retest my blood... I fasted the night before my blood work.. she said that my cholesterol was OK so whats going on? Blood Pressure was also good... I am really worried so any advice would help.. Blessings, Heather I also want to add.. I was just doing some research and I see that fasting should be done for 12 hours... I was told not to eat after midnight... My fasting time was 8 1/2 hours... could that make a difference? To the rude person telling me to stop eating fried foods and such... I have to say that I don't. I am a healthy eater... That was just plain ignornant...
High Cholesterol / Triglycerides treatment w/out statins? Does anyone know of a Dr. in Houston that doesn't use Statin Drugs for high cholesterol and high triglycerides? I am taking TWO statins and want to get off of at least one, if not both of them. I would like to find someone with experience in doing this treatment. Thanks!
Thyroid cont ion w/ high triglycerides...any suggestions for getting it lower? I am being medicated for a hypothyroidism. I got test results today that show that my thyroid is getting back to normal but my triglycerides are at 255. My colesteral is fine. I try to eat a low fat diet (been rough with the holidays) and don't eat a lot of sweets. I don't want to go on more medication. Any suggestions? My doctor mentioned some drug that blocks fat? What would they put you on to reduce your triglycerides?
Low HDL & triglycerides, but high HDL? My cholesterol test came back from the doc saying my total cholesterol is 221. My triglycerides were 83 and my HDL was 61, which the doc says is good, but my LDL was 141. I eat lots of whole grains and fruits/veggies and I exercise an hour a day, 6 days a week. What can be causing the high LDL, and how can I lower it?
Question about Triglycerides? My dad just got some test results. His HDL and LDL cholesterol levels are good. He takes a cholesterol-lowering drug. I think it's Lipitor. However, his Triglycerides are 217. The normal range is 0-150. Why is this and what can he do about it? He fasted before the test.
Very high triglycerides (878)... diet advice? I'm male, 32, vegetarian, 5'10", 176 lbs. I recently got some blood levels checked, and apart from slightly-higher-than-average LDL and slightly-lower-than-average HDL, my triglycerides value is 878 (eight hundred and seventy eight). That's pretty high, it seems. Now: 1. I used to average 10 drinks a week; it's down to three. 2. I used to smoke 40 a day; I've quit. 3. I used to get zero exercise; I now walk an hour a day. I'll get on to more serious exercise when I can, but what should I be doing about my diet? I'm vegetarian, but I'd eat 300 grams of cheese as part of breakfast every once in a while (Brie, in case you're wondering!), or use about 80 grams of butter on my bread. Things like that... But there's this whole thing about what to avoid: alcohol, or fat, or carbohydrates, or sugar?? I'm lost! Until I had this checkup, I'd never thought about diet... Please help! I've been prescribed medication, and given my lifestyle changes, how long would it take for the TG to come down?
Prolonged Fasting result in Falsely elevated Triglycerides? Hihi.. I have been looking for infos on the impact of prolonged fasting( > 14hrs) effects on triglycerides. Does anyone know how much effects it can have on triglycerides? What is the metabolic pathway involved that helps the liver breaks down "something" to produce tryiglycerides so the TG will be falsely increased under prolonged fasting(eg like starvation). Is the TG increase dramatic? Is this not reccomanded when a fasting lab test is necessary? Can anyone explain the metabolic pathway? thx !~ i have returned my biochem to my lecturer.. =x Anyone from lab wish to share some experience? =)
medicines for reducing triglycerides? I am heart patient had by pass surgery 50 years old now have 410 triglycerides and SVSDL 84 please write the correct name of medicine I am vegetarian and under strict diet control .Do not smoke or drink any one can advise me by writing the correct medicine please.
My last blood test(Nov 30 07) showed 332 for triglycerides, which I know is high; my cholesterol is normal.? I've been taking creatinine and protein shakes for the last 3 months; I work out 5 days a week and do cardio at least 3 times a week, and that's the time the triglycerides went up from 172 in July 07 to 332 in Nov 07. I eat very healthy and do a lot of exercise and cardio; I'm very muscular so I'm a big guy for my height but I only have 20% fat weight. Is this increase in triglycerides normal in such a short period of time? and is there a study showing that creatinine and protein suplements can affect the liver producing more triglycerides; my kidney doctor ckeched the kidney functions and glucose and all that hasn't been affected at all. Please advice.
how to lower ur triglycerides?? My hubby just got his lab work back and they putting him on vytoren for high triglycerides..like 382 or something..how can he lower it naturally
Besides conventional medication, what kind of non-traditional medication reduces triglycerides? I'm interested in finding out if anybody has experimented with non-traditional (herbs, etc) ways to reduce either their cholesterol or triglyceride levels? I am currently taking gemfibrozil & niaspan (2000 mg) and I can't get below 400 on my triglyceride level. It was 1,400. It is genetic, but I could still help myself out by eating better, believe me. Easier said than done, though. I worry about my liver functions holding up over time with the conventional medications. Last summer I was in the best shape of my life and I still had high ldl, low hdl and high triglycerides. Much improved, but still not a pretty picture.
Does anyone have high Triglycerides and Hyper Thyroid? I got a full physical-- results of fasting blood test --Triglycerides 299 &Thyroid "barely" abnormal Hyper. I am not losing weight, I am overweight, I'm 5'2" 140 lb. My dad has to test his blood sugar several times a day (does not yet take medication) and my paternal grandmother has diabetes, but my blood sugar came back 87. I have had several situations where I get clammy, shaky so much so I can hardly walk, anxious & have nausea, after I get some food it takes about a 1/2 hr. to feel normal again. I also get real tired in the afternoon, plus I have hemorhoid problems which might have to be removed surgically (yes, I am a mess). I will be following up with my Doc but does anyone out there have these types of problems & how have you handled them? Thanks for all constructive advice--please don't tell me to get off my fat butt and get some exercise--I do swim, do water aerobics and get on my treadmill. Thank you in advance to all who reply.
Symptoms of high cholesterol and triglycerides? My total cholesterol is 239, triglyecerides are 274, and LDL is 143. Can this condition make you FEEL like you have hypoglycemia? Why do I get shaky, sick, and feel like I am starving all of a sudden like my sugar is low when my blood sugar test turned out great? Do cholesterol and triglycerides give you the same kind of symptoms or is something else going on? i am only 23 and i am getting ready to be treated for cholesterol with zocor if my dieting doesn't bring these levels down within the next 3 months. i was just up late and wondering if this can make you feel like you have low blood sugar. or what are some symptoms that come with it because i can't find them on the internet??
