Have lowered your triglycerides level using omega 3 products? If so, can you briefly share your experience?
How do you get triglycerides down from 550? My uncle was on lipitor and is 68. All of a sudden his triglycerides shot up to 550 and he is trying all sorts of cholesterol lowering medicines and it will not go down. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I dont want to go on cholesterol meds. If I stop eating for a week will my triglycerides go down? I went to the doctor and he told me if my lipid panel did not improve he was going to consider putting me on cholesterol lowering drugs. I know from past experience these meds are hard on the liver. I would rather go the natural route which he suggested fish oil tablets every day. If I stop eating this weekend, will my triglycerides go down before my next blood draw? I been cheating on my diet really bad and need to get my cholesterol down. I just want to get it down so when they draw my lipid panel, he doesnt slap me on cholesterol lowering drugs because it is high. I have been a slacker and not really following a low fat diet. Yeah, I could lose about 50 lbs now. I just dropped 20 and cheated over the easter weekend and have not been back on my diet plan for about a week. I am 5'10 tall and am very volumptuous. I have big nockers and I am very curvy. A diet would do me great things. He has been my cardiologist for 25 yrs. He keeps telling me to eat like a rabbit, but I saw him eating in the cafeteria and he was eating a cheeseburger. He knows me inside out. My heart is mis wired and now I have a couple of electrical shorts put in (ablation)
Information about cholesterol lowering medicine and heart disease wanted? I have a history of acute Congestive heart failure unknown cause; maybe alcohol or viral age 29. I have been on Lipitor 18 months with sore, aching muscles for all that time. I ran out of Lipitor for 3 days and started feeling better. I stayed off and now 2 weeks later I feel better then ever? My GP says it's "placebo" thinking that the Lipitor is causing the muscles my blood tests do not indicate Lipitor is effecting my muscles. However my Triglycerides get high at times and my cholesterol a little high /not much. Can anybody suggest the risk over benefit with Lipitor and other statins. I do not qualify to take alternitives in medical cholesterol lowering meds. STATINS OR NOTHING? Or natural therapies. Please help

Question about Triglycerides? My dad just got some test results. His HDL and LDL cholesterol levels are good. He takes a cholesterol-lowering drug. I think it's Lipitor. However, his Triglycerides are 217. The normal range is 0-150. Why is this and what can he do about it? He fasted before the test.
Lowering Cholesterol? I am 24 years old and my doctor did simple blood work on me. I received my results to find out that my triglycerides are 463 (so high they couldn't determine my bad cholesterol) and my good cholesterol is 30. My physician told me that I need to have my cholesterol lowered to at least 200 by six weeks, but I am clueless as where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Answer this question about Fish Oil? A scientific study says that Fish Oil can lower triglyceride levels but increases LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol). Does lowering triglyceride levels take priority over LDL cholesterol?

Olive Oil...How much? Everyone knows olive oil is good for you and will benefit you in many ways i.e. It's heart healthy, It lowers LDL levels and helps raise HDL levels, It lowers triglyceride levels, helps stabilize blood sugar and the list goes on. My question is this; How much oil olive can one consume daily? After all, 1 tsp. contains 14g of fat? although 10 grams of that fat is monosaturated (healthy fat), what is the suggested of olive oil intake daily? I hear people in the Mediterrian actually drink a 1/4 of a cup a day and eat it with everything. It's also reported they have the lowest heart disease rate on the globe with an exception of Japan. So again, how much is ok to consume on a daily basis?
Could you lower your cholesterol with vitamins? My cholesterol was 207 in Feb 2007. For the last 2 weeks I have been taking life force vitamins, which has green tea, inositol, milk thistle and vitamin B12,D,E,A in it. My Dr tested my cholesterol a few days ago and now it's 167 and my triglycerides were 142. from 165 Do you think the vitamins would have lowered it? I have not been on an special diets or anything. You're right. I was kinda skepitcal about the results too. Should I ask them to take it again?

seeking a nutritionist to treat my fatty liver that has mild inflammation? according to an ultrasound and blood tests, my doctor believes I have fatty liver with mild inflammation. I also have high bad cholesterol and triglycerides so the only treatment possible is to lose weight ,eat healthy, and exercise which I have been doing. I was once 190 but now 175lbs over the course of a month and a half from my lifestyle change. However, I feel that my gastroentereologists are giving me mixed information which is angering me mostly due to the fact that I think they don't really know much about fatty liver with inflammation since it's new. I believe by eating right I can treat and heal my liver and can avoid doing unnecessary procedures like a liver biopsy. How effective are nutritionists? Do you think they are of much help in terms of lowering my cholesterol/triglycerides and reversing my fatty liver with inflammation? It turns out that my condition is prevalent within my own ethnicity (asians) I figured seeking an asian nutritionist who has had experience treating ppl with my condition would be beneficial since they would understand our physiology much better than say someone who was non-asian and probably only seen people with this conition who are extremely obese lee - was your liver inflammed as well? A liver can have fat in it but if its inflammed from the fat that's a different story. My liver ended up having A LOT of fat in it so I'm working on reducing it.
can one Red Grapefruit a day Lowers Cholesterol? http://websites.afar.org/site/PageServer?pagename=IA_l_nutr_redgf Researchers in Israel have published findings in The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry that suggest eating red grapefruit can help reduce cholesterol in some patients who do not respond to statins, a class of drugs that millions of patients take to lower “bad” cholesterol levels. The researchers tested 57 patients between the ages of 39 to 72 who had undergone coronary bypass surgery and who failed to respond to simvastin, one of the popular statin drugs on the market. They divided the patients into three groups: The first ate one red grapefruit daily; the second ate one white grapefruit daily; and the third ate no grapefruit at all. Except for the grapefruit, study participants consumed identical diets. None took lipid-lowering drugs during the study. After one month, the group that ate one red grapefruit a day had significantly decreased blood levels of triglycerides. Antioxidant activity was also higher, as it was in the group that ate one white grapefruit a day. There were no differences in the heart rate, blood pressure, or weight between the study groups and the control group. Reviewed by: Barbara Shukitt-Hale, Ph.D., Tufts University Published: May 2006

wanna losse weight?? tips here :))? ok well you can try the raw food diet. read this ... :)) What is the Raw Food Diet? The raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed. Heating food above 116 degrees F is believed to destroy enzymes in food that can assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also thought to diminish the nutritional value and "life force" of food. Typically, at least 75% of the diet must be living or raw. What are the Benefits of the Raw Food Diet? Proponents of the raw food diet believe it has numerous health benefits, including: Increased energy Improved skin appearance Better digestion Weight loss Reduced risk of heart disease The raw food diet contains fewer trans fats and saturated fat than the typical Western diet. It is also low in sodium and high in potassium, magnesium, folate, fiber and health-promoting plant chemicals called phytochemicals. These properties are associated with a reduced risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. For example, a study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that consumption of a raw food diet lowered plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations. What are the Guidelines of the Raw Food Diet? 1. What can I eat? Unprocessed, preferably organic, whole foods such as: Fresh fruits and vegetables Nuts Seeds Beans Grains Legumes Dried fruit Seaweed Unprocessed organic or natural foods Freshly juiced fruit and vegetables Purified water Young coconut milk At least 75% of food consumed should not be heated over 116 degrees F. 2. What cooking techniques are used? Specific cooking techniques make foods more digestible and add variety to the diet, including: Sprouting seeds, grains, and beans Juicing fruit and vegetables Soaking nuts and dried fruit Blending Dehydrating food 3. What equipment can I use? A dehydrator, a piece of equipment that blows air through food at a temperature of less than 116 degrees F. A good-quality juice extractor for juicing fruit and vegetables A blender, food processor, or chopper to save time Large glass containers to soak and sprout seeds, grains, and beans Mason jars for storing sprouts and other food Side Effects Some people experience a detoxification reaction when they start the raw food diet, especially if their previous diet was rich in meat, sugar, and caffeine. Mild headaches, nausea, and cravings can occur but usually last for several days. Precautions The raw food diet may not be appropriate for certain people, such as: Children Pregnant or nursing women People with anemia People at risk for osteoporosis - A Washington University study found that people following a raw food diet had lower bone mass. Bone turnover rates, however, were similar to the group that ate a standard American diet. Considerable time, energy, and commitment is needed to be healthy on the raw food diet. Many of the foods are made from scratch. Some ingredients may be hard to find, such as Rejuvelac (the fermented liquid drained from sprouted grains), sprouted flour, date sugar, young coconut milk, carob powder and Celtic sea salt. People must be aware that certain nutritional deficiencies can occur on the raw food diet, including: Calcium Iron B12 – The Journal of Nutrition study found that a raw food diet increased levels of homocysteine due to vitamin B-12 deficiency. Protein Calories Critics of the raw food diet say while it’s true that some enzymes are inactivated when food is heated, it doesn’t matter because the body uses its own enzymes for digestion. In addition, cooking makes certain phytochemicals easier to absorb, such as beta-carotene in carrots. Another critique is that the human body has changed in response to eating cooked foods. Some of these changes are that are jaws and teeth have become smaller, our stomachs have shrunk, and our small intestines have grown longer, lengthening the digestive surface area. According to other alternative diet theories, such as macrobiotics, Ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine, a raw-only diet may not be appropriate for people living in colder climates or for people with certain constitutional types. i put this up because i wanted to help people that wanted to loose weight!! if you have any questions please e-mail me at kardasian_twin@yahoo.com

anxiety, GERD or thyroid? i've been wondering what is happening with me. i have occasional heartburn and i'm taking nexium as per doctors prescribed. however, i feel dizziness most times of the day and i'm starting to think that i have anxiety disorder. i also feel dizzy and anxiety starts to come in after eating. i had my blood test and it seems that everything is normal except slightly elevated SGPT and Triglycerides mainly because of fatty liver. i'm planning to have endoscopy next week to see the causes. Get answers from millions of real people.? In April 2008 my total cholesterol was 298 with an HDL level of 65. I had new tests done 7/18/08 and my total cholesterol was 249, but my HDL dropped to 55. My triglycerides level is 54. Over the past few months I have been exercising a lot more and eating better, more green leafy veggies, fruit. I did take a statin for two days several days before my test. Would the two days I took the statin drug have had such an impact on my total cholesterol that it would have lowered it almost 50 points or was it the cumulative impact of my change in diet and increase in exercise? Unfortunately the statin drug upset my stomach terribly and I was forced to stop taking it. What should my next steps be. Thank you so much for your input. It's greatly appreciated. dvl52

Taking Super Omega 3 fish oil-2, 1000 mgs caps per day for about 1 1/2 wks now? My cholestral was 284, ldl=191(<150), Triglycerides=111(<130), HDL=74(>40). My HDL is really great which helps to balance out the bad LDL. I have started taking a good brand of Super Omega 3 fish oil by Carlson that is supposed to help with lowering cholestral levels. Does anyone know how long to take before getting another bloodwork up? Also does this also help with depression? Thanks
