HIGH TRIGLYCERIDES question? I recently had my blood work done and my cholesterol is a little high but mt triglycerides have skyrocketed. I'm a 41 y.old male 5'9 200 pounds, I have not eaten fast foods or any high saturated fatty foods in 2 years, also I've been taking omega 3 and flax seed oil for 5 years! My doctor told me to cut out the high fatty foods but I really don't eat crap food, nor red meat. Now I really have not been that active in the past 2 years, I work 6 ten hour shifts behind a desk then come home cook dinner and right to the couch, then to bed. Can anyone tell me the symptoms of high triglycerides, the past 6 months i've been very lazy, not much energy?
Does anyone have high Triglycerides and Hyper Thyroid? I got a full physical-- results of fasting blood test --Triglycerides 299 &Thyroid "barely" abnormal Hyper. I am not losing weight, I am overweight, I'm 5'2" 140 lb. My dad has to test his blood sugar several times a day (does not yet take medication) and my paternal grandmother has diabetes, but my blood sugar came back 87. I have had several situations where I get clammy, shaky so much so I can hardly walk, anxious & have nausea, after I get some food it takes about a 1/2 hr. to feel normal again. I also get real tired in the afternoon, plus I have hemorhoid problems which might have to be removed surgically (yes, I am a mess). I will be following up with my Doc but does anyone out there have these types of problems & how have you handled them? Thanks for all constructive advice--please don't tell me to get off my fat butt and get some exercise--I do swim, do water aerobics and get on my treadmill. Thank you in advance to all who reply.

My doctor tells me to stop eating everything I like (meat, dairy, spicy foods). I'm 22, weigh 165 and am 5' 10" and work out at least 3 times a week...if not more. Is there anyone out there thats in the same boat and uses something that controls this type of bad cholesterol?

what natural or alternative things, herbs, and foods will reduce high blood pressure. Was just told I have? early stages of retinopathy that is either related to blood sugar problems or more likely he feels hypertensive retinopathy. My blood pressure started running in the 155 to 170 or so range over 80-90 in the last several months. I am afraid to take medical drugs, yet don't want to eventually go blind from blood vessels breaking in my eye as I had three relatives go blood from other causes and it is awful. I also have high cholesterol, triglycerides and am overweight but can't seem to lose it so please try to focus mostly on the blood pressure in this answer if possible although you can add additional suggestions for other problems if you wish but blood pressure reduction is main focus and retinopathy, what alternative things will get it into normal range or at least back to borderline where it had been previous. thanks

I just had my yearly physical, and my triglycerides are high..? My Total clorestoral is 184, which is good. My HDL is 33, but preferrably should be above 40 or higher. My LDL is 104, Less than 130 is ok, and less than 100 is preferred. The bad news is that my Triglycerides are at 237 and should be less than 150. How do I lower the triglycerides in a healthy manner? For anybody who has dealt with this, What did you do? I don't eat a lot of fried foods, and have been eating more fish for several years now. Any suggestions?
Diabetes? Drinking a gallon of water a day, high cholesterol, recent fatigue, sugar cravings...? I have been just completely exhausted for the past month, and drinking about a gallon of water a day. I have been craving sugar-y foods, I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides, excellent blood pressure. Father and grandmother with diabetes. I don't "exercise" regularly, but I do walk my dog daily and I have a very active job. I have been warned that I am high risk- at one point(age 23) I was warned that if I didn't change my eating habits, I would have diabetes by the time I turned 30. I'm 28 now. Not significantly overweight, either- maybe 20 lbs. How worried should I be? Can I just attribute the thirst and fatigue to stress and hot weather? Also- I have a few bug bites that got open and are taking a long time to heal despite using prescription cream from my doc. Thanks Sorry if I wasn't clear in my post- my job is definitely NOT sedentary, I work with special needs kindergarteners and I really don't sit still at all from 8-3!
Triglycerides waaaaaaaay too high!? My total cholesterol is normal but my doc said my Triglycerides are waaaaaaaaaaay too high....they've hit the 200's and two years ago were normal. I'm not a big steak eater....I don't eat fast food....I actually competed in an Ironman in 2004, I do yoga, and brazilian jiu jitsu. What could cause my tri's to shoot up so high? I read that I'm at risk for heart attack but I'm only 35. WTH!!! Could stress raise my tris?
The Dr is still not happy with my cholesterol and triglycerides? My Cholestrtol is 257 and needs to be 2oo My triglcerides are 355 and needs to be below 0-150. what foods would make these stay High? What foods should I be eating to lower it?
What are foods for diabetics? I'm 13 and the doctor thinks it's genetic but none of my aunts/uncles have diabetes. I have pre-diabetes. My blood sugar after an eight hour fasting went up to 99. I'm very worried. I also have high cholesterol and high triglycerides. I'm having issues with eating: i love candy and sugar but i can't eat if anymore. I have to find replacements other than fruit. I also need some soft drinks. How often can i eat candy? i'm not fat. people say i'm skinny. 43kilos 156cm.
What are some cholesterol lowering foods? I am 29 year old not overweight and VERY active. I was told I have high cholesterol and my Triglycerides (sp?) are high. I heard Cheerios and Aloe Vera Juice can lower cholesterol. Any other suggestions? My Dr. perscribed Crestor--I refuse to take it......I AM YOUNG and can fix my diet!!! I need your suggestions!
High Triglyceride Level and Fasting? During my recent physical, my triglycerides came back at 1480, dangerously high. However, the people at this office did NOT tell me to fast before the test. The night before, my wife and I celebrated her birthday by basically pigging out on fatty foods (steak for dinner; cake for dessert; 2 glasses of wine each). I also had a glass of OJ that morning before the test, as well as a couple bites of the birthday cake (a crappy breakfast, I know). My blood sugar was elevated as well, which I'm pretty sure was due to the sugary stuff I had with no fast. Would that admittedly crappy diet have an effect on my triglyceride levels? I'm thinking about switching doctors because I didn't even know my triglycerides were that high until I requested my medical records. He didn't tell me about the results of the triglycerides, only the blood sugar level. His response, coupled with the ineffectiveness of the office in not telling me to fast, has not inspired me with confidence. Time to switch?
wjat natural remedies, herbs, foods or supplements etc will help lower blood pressure? I just found out I have early signs of retinopathy in my eye due to likely blood pressure he said. It averages 165 over 85 or a little up and down from that, Also had high cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar problems also will anything reduce plaque on one's arteries ans strength the blood vessels or capillaries..
Foods that will lower and higher your cholesterol? I am on a drug (accutane) and they monitor your Triglycerides every month....This drug really helps me and I need to make sure my Triglyceride levels stay low....are there any foods that I should eat to bring it down/keep it low? and what foods should I STAY AWAY from
Does Mono-Diglycerides which turn into triglycerides in our blood stream. Does it raise our triglycerides.? I drink a creamer that has Mono- and diglycerides (prevents oil separation) in the ingredients. I found out it turns into triglycerides in our blood stream. What I want to know does it cause triglycerides to go up? I have very very high triglycerides, in the danger range!!!!! The Mono-Diglycerides are in a lot of food stuff I eat!!!! My doc's and I are having a hard time finding what is causing my high levels of Triglycerides. I've always had a healthy diet, I weight 130 lb. 5'3, and no other family members have it. The highest it's been is 1,734 (Triglycerides). So I'm very curious. Thank you for any information you can give. FYI I do have MS.
I have high cholesterol WHY? Blood sugar fasting 79, cholesterol- 233, Triglycerides- 59, HDL-48, LDL 173? I have low blood pressure. I am very active I am training for my 3rd marathon. I don't eat read meat, turkey, chicken, fried foods, and I limit my dairy intake. I eat fish (the low mercury fishes such as halibut etc.) and soy products. I understand that I am fighting my genes that because both my parents have had or still have heart problems but I want to be as preventative as possible. WHAT CAN I DO? Please help. Thank you.
People's food choices at my workplace...? My company provides its employees with free food, snacks (chips and candy) included. Recently I've been diagnosed with inflammation of the liver from too much fat..we're guessing its from high cholesterol/triglycerides from all them chips and junk foods I used to eat. I stopped and I eat lean meats, fish, and vegetables along with fiber and exercise on a daily basis. However, around me I still see people grabbing chips and eating them and just choosing all the fried foods like fries, fried chicken and foods high in fat like pizza. I noticed my coworker behind me got 3 pieces of fried chicken, bag of doritos, with a side of Coke. Im more cautious about my health cause of my liver so I changed but only because of that I notice that people really do eat terribly. Are they shortening their life span? Do you notice this too when you start to eat healthy? I quit because it's damaging my health I wonder if they know what they're doing to their bodies? to the third poster: nah I don't tell them anything...they eat what they eat, I have no right to tell them otherwise, I just kinda notice this for myself that's all. Because in my experience eating like this has done nothing for me but harm.

In the morning this accumulated gas causes a burning sensation in my abdoment and back. I had an ultrasound scan and found fatty liver. My triglycerides are high(450) and cholestrol is 268. My sugar level is near the top but within normal level. I am only 28 yrs. Question: My Has this fatty liver has to do anything with gas ? Are these symptoms of insulin resistance and diabetes ? Not just lactose but this gas is caused with all kinds of foods. Even in empty stomach, I am having gas inside. How can I get these treated ? Please help me..
Are medium chain triglycerides(MCTS) classified under saturated or unsaturated fat on food labels? This, because some people I know may be mistakenly avoiding using a product with MCTS, thinking that the total Saturated fat is too high.
high hdl levels? My HDL is 119, my LDL is 99, my triglycerides are 52. I'm 43 years old and eat extremely healthy. I have heard that these numbers could only come from inherited genes. I am trying to get my family history, but should I continue about worrying about what I eat. I generally eat low GI foods, fish, veggies and high fat content cheese, EVOO, flax seed. I eat steak on occasions, but should I try to lower my LDL and how could I accomplish this.
Why do the food makers like to make 30g sugars per serve for all juice bottles equally? Sugar can decrease HDL and increase triglycerides from the high glucose, are there any brand names of juice bottles without additional sugar?
high blood pressure question? I went to my doctor last tuesday, and my blood pressure was 140/90. Now, I must say that I am obese, but I have cut out all the junk food and fast food from my diet, drastically reduced my sodium intake, eating more fruit and veggies, and exercising more (I'm using the stationary bike and my mini step and I am powerwalking). I am also drinking more water and none of the sugary stuff like soda. My dr. gave me a month, to see if my pressure goes down. There are other factors though: I have been taking allergy medication, like Alavert and claritin, and I have been stressed lately, and my cholestrol level is 161 (down from 239) but my triglycerides is 178 (a bit high) My question is: besides, the things I mentioned above, what else can I do to lower my blood pressure. FYI: I also have a juicer , so if you have any natural juice receipes I could use that would lower my b.p. that will be great. no pets at home; I am allegeric to pet dander I forgot to mention that my doctor gave me a month to lower my pressure on my own without meds. Also, does me being anemic (because I am) has anything to do with the high blood pressure?
Does tender cocunt contain fat? Hi, I recently had my blood tested and found to have high triglycerides. Doctor has advised me to stay away from fat rich foods including coconut. I can stay away from coconut but I love tender coconut very much and take it quiet frequently. What is the fat content of tender coconut?. Do I need to avoid eating this as well? Thanks in advance

Trusted MEDICAL ADVICE PLEASE ON TRYGLICERIDES? Hello, I recently got blood drawn and they said I had bragging numbers for cholestoral but i have HIGH triglycerides. I have researched this and it is typical of obese or overweight people. I am 5'4 ande113 lba, it does not make sense, i try natural alternatives and use extra light olive oil on my face and whole body after each shower to keep moisuturized. It is know to be healthy to the heart and great for your skin, but i wonder if that is what sent my tri. reading so high? Any thoughts? ALso, you read on food about low cholesterol but nothign about triglycerides.
Can the pill increase my triglyceride level? I switched pill in Jan/07. Last week I did blood analysis and my triglyceride level was extremely high (237, when the max. is 180). Can this be caused by the pill I'm now taking? I have a rather healthy diet, and I rarely eat fast food, especially because my blood analysis in Jan/07 showed that my triglyceride level was already at 198, so I was aware that I had to be careful about that...
my mildly inflammed fatty liver (non-alcoholic)...but I'm not obese? so i have a mildly inflammed liver (mild NASH) due to extensive fatty change (fatty liver). Here's a question though: I read that this is a condition that happens to people that are OBESE or morbidly obese. But I'm not obese...I may be overweight (was 190 lbs at 5'10 when I got tested with elevated liver enzymes). However my triglycerides and cholesterol are both high and have been rather high for the past few years. Could this be the culprit? That high cholesterol and triglycerides have caused this NASH because I've been just piling the fat onto the liver? I have lost weight and in my ideal now at 173 and now eat a lot of vegetables/fruits/fiber and avoiding high fatty foods (junk foods) and exercising daily. They say NASH can be stopped and reversed through weight loss, exercise, good diet but most articles seem to relate it to the obese...would this work on someone that is overweight? Is the prognosis for this better on the overweight? to babygurl: yes they did an ultrasound and it said i had a bad fatty liver. They assumed its NASH. What was the reason for your elevated enzymes? My doctors didn't really recommend getting a biopsy done to see if its NASH unless if my enzymes were high EVEN after I've lost weight to my ideal, eat right and exercise.
Registered Dietitian Or Controled Diabetic Help? I am looking for help for a diabetic type 2 with a Meal Plan. Daily calories, Daily Carbohydrate, Daily Protein, and Daily Fats. This persons A1C is 9.4 has high Cholesterol & Triglycerides. Also is it that important that they eat from all the food groups? She tends to stay away from Fruit and Milk groups and trys to eat very little Carbs, Nothing seems to lower her A1C level, seems to be at a stand-still. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Cholesterol remedies.? REading about many. I feel I should give a little background. I am 34 and have been getting borderline high Cholesterol reading along with mildly high triglycerides. Highest total Chol I got was a 240 mg/dl. Triglycerides have been in the low 200's also at times. I assume with my family history (father) that I awill be on a statin in the future. So I have been reading alternatives. Beta-Carotene, Phytolsterols, and Niacin supplements. The research I have been reading seem a little biased all thogh they are not pounding you over the head with things they are trying to sell. Do any of you have first hand feedbak about any of these treatments? I am most interested in the Plant Sterols and Niacin. My diet is not perfect but it is NOT attrocious. But I have read and know that about 25% of body cholesterol is from foods ingested. The rest is what the liver produces. This is the heriditary component. I want to know what you guys have been using what changes are noticed.
My total cholesterol is 249, triglycerides is 104 mg/dl, HDL 90, LDL 134, VLDL21. Do I need to be concerned? I am 100lbs, 5 feet tall and 53 years old. Don't exercise and have reseanably decent food habits. Never smoked, don't drink. My confusion arises from the conflict between (a) the bad high LDL score and (b( the really good HDL score, the really good total to HDL ratio, the really good LDL to HDL ratio. A related question I have is whether I can deduct say, 40 points, off the total cholesterol score on the basis that if I have normal rather than extra good HDL scores it would be about 40 points less. That would leave my total score closer to 200. Doctor left message along with scores saying everything is fine. Always had low blood pressure, no diabetes, family history of anything, any other risk factors, 67 heart rate. Does eat oatmeal now and then but usually omit breakfast. I do eat double digit helpings of fruit and vege very very often. Have good knowledge about cholesterol and have researched internet extensively. Could not find anything specific answering my question.
Can someone tell me what this is? I'm a 21 year old slightly overweight but healthy male. I had been drinking a lot prior to this situation but just wine every night or almost every night. On June 6th I tried gin for the first time and I've had other hard liquors before. I drank it on an empty stomach mixed with lemon juice and ginger ale (I don't usually mix, was experimenting). I drank half the bottle and started feeling the need to take deep breaths so I stopped. In the morning I had the same sensation, and a cough/irritation below my throat. I had every test done including EKG/Gallbladder & Liver scan/endoscopy/barium swallow/blood tests/allergies etc. all were negative aside from the endoscopy finding a 3-4 cm sliding hiatal hernia, which was so small it didn't show on the barium swallow and doesn't coincide w/ my symptoms since they happened instantly. I was put on all types of antacids and PPI's because they thought it was acid reflux. I took Zantac/PepcidAC/Protonix/Zegerid/Aciphex etc. nothing helped. After trying those plus antibiotics and ativan because they thought it was psychological, I started burping a lot. I burp all the time now, especially when I sit up or after I eat(not when I lay down at all). I don't burp up food, but I get an indigestion feeling like an "mmmph" as if I've eaten too much, even on an empty stomach. My tongue is coated white/yellow. My breath is worse in the morning, and I still have a cough/irritation between my collar bones that gets worse when I take a deep breath (feels air related, not swallow related). I don't regurgitate food nor do I regurgitate acid. I don't get any heartburn and none of the antacid pills have helped. The endoscopy showed no inflammation or irritation. No one knows what it is but all I know is it started to happen after I drank the gin. I haven't drank any alcohol and I'm eating a good diet, small meals, all the recommendations for stomach issues. I'm getting acupuncture and treatment through a naturopath, they have some good ideas, and are trying, but I have not been "cured" yet. I am wondering if any of you could give me some info on how gin could cause this and what it could be? I have a very very hearty stomach, I collect hot sauces and used to eat habanero sauce and very very large meals. I have a very high alcohol tolerance and never had this problem before, even after copious amounts, it's so strange. All I can think of is the day that I drank the gin, I had Japanese food for lunch (Sushi and teriaki beef) along with some spicy beef jerky (the kind they keep in the plastic vats). I've had it before so I'm not sure if perhaps I contracted some stomach bug from the food and the gin aggravated it? I have no idea, but this has lasted 2 months and I'm freaking out. Here are my stats taken by the naturopath: Ph of 5.8 (acidic) A pulse of 91 beats per minute Good blood pressure and zinc levels Low overall cholesterol, 125 High triglycerides (TG's) 137 Very low good cholesterol (HDL) 36 Very low calcium 150 Low bad cholesterol (LDL) which is a good thing, 61 A bit high in the glucose at 98 when the range is 80-95 and found my TC : HDL to be 3.4 Body fat percentage 24.7% Only serious answers please, and thank you for reading. I saw a pulmonologist who did a spirometer and flow meter test for the lungs, it came out fine. My main symptom is an irritation below my neck near the collar bones, it's constant. The shortness of breath has lessened since that day. I had a lot of stress right before this happened, transmission had problems, had to reformat computer, etc. I have college as well and that is also a bit stressful but I don't feel "stressed" right now, I feel calm. Is it possible to still be stressed even though you feel fine? I also notice my leg shakes a lot (restless leg) since this started. I'm usually not anxious or hypochondriac-like but these sensations are new to me and very unsettling. I also want to add that ever since this started, my bowel movements have been strange. They drop out in strange pieces that fall to the bottom of the toilet and never float. They have a "scattered" "dirt-like" quality with this powdery/murky stuff coming out of them floating all around, it looks like tiny little dots. When I flush, it all billows up in a huge cloud as if flushing flour that has sat on the bottom of the toilet bowl. This can't just be "GERD", this makes no sense. Something is in my stomach?
my non-alcoholic fatty liver inflammation...? would like some insight thank you? so my doctor says because of my elevated ALT and ultrasound showing of fatty liver he says I probably have mild inflmmation due to the extensive fat around my liver and from high triglycerides/cholesterol To treat this, I have lost weight to my ideal as well as eating more healthy and basically avoiding junk food. Exercising 5-6 days a week for 40 minutes. I will get another blood test later on. My question is: by doing this have I improved my liver condition? I hear it can be reversible I wonder if I have done so. Have I helped treat this inflammation by trying to reduce fat around my liver? Can I still have a normal life span? I hope this condition won't shorten my lifespan I'm only 26
Need help with my husbands diet? My husband went to the doctor today and he has to go on a very strict diet. His cholesterol is 154, bit his triglycerides are over 650 and his blood sugar was at 122. He is at a high risk for pancreatitis and is getting to be pre-diabetic. I have been doing research online and so far have come up with no alcohol, sugary foods, white food products (pastas, breads), limit butter and whole milk, no deep fried foods, and cut red meats to minimal. The good foods I came up with are more fruits and vegetables, poultry and fish (but not fried), dark green leafy vegetables, brown rice, wheat breads and pastas, oats, barley, and use extra virgin olive oil instead of butter. Does this sound like a good menu? Is there something else I should add to either the good or bad foods? To B B, I try to pay attention but he is stubborn and wouldn't listen to me until today. If I made something he didn't want he simply wouldn't eat it. Monetspiccaso, my husband hasn't drank much since we found out we were going to have our son (about 2 years now), but thank you very much for your concern about his alcohol intake. Klb_72, thanks for the menu idea.
Control Triglyceride Level? My husband's dietitian told him that foods contain high cholesterol do not contribute to human body's cholesterol level. Can it be true? I have always thought that the cholesterol in food will contribute to our body's cholesterol level.

My cousin (32 years) recently got back her cholesterol test results and her numbers are really bad (270),? triglycerides are very high. We all are concerned about her. She has started making some lifestyle changes like eating more veggies and fruits, no red meat, dairy products and also moderate exercise everyday. The problem is that the whole week she will watch her diet but during weekends she will let herself go. She will eat pizza, cheesecake etc and insists that eating all this stuff just once in a week won't hurt her. I think otherwise. Also, I have been asking her to stay away from fried food but she insists that if it is fried in some 0 cholesterol oil like canola oil, it should be fine. Is she right?
Explain LDL, HDL, and triglyceride interaction? I just got my blood tests back, and everywhere I look for explainations on how to improve diet, I see high triglys with high LDL. I have high LDL (145) but low trigly (122) and higher HDL (51). Can you explain how I can have low triglys and high LDL? What foods would you recommend eating or not eating to lower mainly the LDL since I have low triglys already? Feel free to use biological terms. I am a bio major, but in animal, not human, so I do not understand chloesteral concepts that well, but get the intra/extracellular workings. thanks in advance
Have I been cured of NASH (fatty liver+inflammation)? 3 months ago I was diagnosed with NASH (fatty liver with inflammation) through an ultrasound and elevated liver enzymes. They say a possible cause is through elevated cholesterol/triglycerides which I had. 3 months later after eating healthy and exercising, my liver enzymes have gone back to normal but high normal and my cholesterol is normal. Is it safe to say that I do not have NASH anymore? Or do I still have it and have to maintain a healthy lifestyle so I don't get it again. What are some foods that are good for the liver?
can one Red Grapefruit a day Lowers Cholesterol? http://websites.afar.org/site/PageServer?pagename=IA_l_nutr_redgf Researchers in Israel have published findings in The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry that suggest eating red grapefruit can help reduce cholesterol in some patients who do not respond to statins, a class of drugs that millions of patients take to lower “bad” cholesterol levels. The researchers tested 57 patients between the ages of 39 to 72 who had undergone coronary bypass surgery and who failed to respond to simvastin, one of the popular statin drugs on the market. They divided the patients into three groups: The first ate one red grapefruit daily; the second ate one white grapefruit daily; and the third ate no grapefruit at all. Except for the grapefruit, study participants consumed identical diets. None took lipid-lowering drugs during the study. After one month, the group that ate one red grapefruit a day had significantly decreased blood levels of triglycerides. Antioxidant activity was also higher, as it was in the group that ate one white grapefruit a day. There were no differences in the heart rate, blood pressure, or weight between the study groups and the control group. Reviewed by: Barbara Shukitt-Hale, Ph.D., Tufts University Published: May 2006
Cholesterol Problem!!? I heard that you shouldn't really worry about the "Total Cholesterol" but rather your HDL, LDL & Triglycerides. Is it true? I am a 29 yrs old woman. I did blood test 3 times this year, and here is my results: On 3/2007 HDL (57), LDL (120), Tri (60), Total Cholesterol (189) On 7/2007 HDL (68), LDL (151), Tri (88), Total Cholesterol (237) <=Red Flag. On 11/2007 HDL (62), LDL (136), Tri (67), Total Cholesterol (211) <=Still high. My diet is pretty the same all year along, I don't know what I ate that make it rise so much from March to July. Then I pay more attention to what I put in my mouth, I started taking fish oil and eliminate much greasy food. I also start eating 15 almonds per day. It drops a little, but it is still kinda high. And how is the "total cholesterol" calculated? is it HDL+LDL+Triglycerides? Mine doesn't add up, so I am curious of how they calculate that.
are you a sushi lover? Are you a sushi fanatic or do you have trouble getting past the thought of eating raw fish? Well, it turns out that our national indulgence in this tasty and visually enticing treat from Japan may also be good for our health. Sushi is generally made with white rice and sweet rice vinegar, fresh vegetables, seaweed, sesame seeds, and cooked or raw seafood. Like many other Japanese foods, sushi tends to be low in fat, cholesterol, and calories. In addition, sushi that has seafood as an ingredient is often an excellent source of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which lower the risk of blood clots and decrease triglyceride levels. The fresh vegetables in most sushi also have essential vitamins and minerals. The seaweed wrapping for these rolls is rich in micronutrients and phytochemicals. A few cautions if you are an avid sushi eater but have high blood pressure or are pregnant or nursing. Sushi made with seaweed tends to be a little higher in sodium, as is the soy sauce that each piece is dipped in. Too much sodium in the diet contributes to high blood pressure. And if you are pregnant or nursing, be sure to avoid sushi made from fish, either raw or cooked. The raw fish may carry unwanted bacteria and any sushi made from fish, whether cooked or uncooked, is likely to contain high levels of mercury.
Omacor: Is it available in Canada? Omacor® is a new medication that consists of a high concentration of highly purified omega-3 fatty acid ethyl esters. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in November 2004, this new drug is used to treat hypertriglyceridemia and is meant to serve as an adjunctive therapy in addition to healthy eating habits, and the control of heart disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol levels. Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition in which triglyceride levels exceed 500 mg/dL and could be a precursor to serious heart disease if not properly addressed. This medication, which is manufactured by Pronova Biocare and Reliant Pharmaceuticals, was released on the US market in the fall of 2005.
